That fascination gradually evolved into a deeper engagement with cinema as an art, a philosophy, and a way of understanding the human condition. Over the years, cinema has become far more than a form of entertainment for me. It has been a window into different cultures, histories, and ways of being. From classical masters to contemporary auteurs, films have continually challenged my assumptions, enriched my imagination, and expanded my understanding of the human condition.
Movie Retrospect was born out of a desire to look beyond plot summaries and ratings. Here, cinema is approached as a complex interplay of image, sound, performance, memory, and emotion. The essays and reviews published on this blog attempt to engage with films through close analysis while remaining accessible to anyone who shares a love for the medium.
The blog features film reviews, essays, retrospectives, lists, and reflections on world cinema across different eras and cultures. Particular attention is often given to Asian cinema, classical Hollywood, and independent filmmaking.
I currently serve as the Chief Editor at High on Films, where I continue to engage with cinema critically and editorially. Yet Movie Retrospect remains a deeply personal space—an archive of cinematic encounters, evolving thoughts, and enduring passions.
Thank you for visiting. I hope these writings inspire you to revisit old classics, discover new films, and perhaps see cinema—and life—with renewed curiosity.
